BASS STREET, Flinders
COMPLETED APRIL 2019
INSPIRATION: Kennon Lodge was destined to be a beautiful modern beach home that stood out from the crowd, and that inspired design debate. We wanted to build a coastal house that was large enough for a family residence, bold enough to explore an edgy architectural style and luxurious enough for the modest fastidious of buyers. Most importantly the home needed to adhere to our holiday house design and build mantra – creating a home that the owners can enjoy, and then ‘lock up and leave’. Low maintenance luxury.
TARGET MARKET: A family wanting a beautiful beach home to use for holidays or as a weekender.
LOCATION: We chose this location because of the proximity to Flinders beach which is just a short stroll away, and for the beautiful northerly aspect in the rear yard. It was a block of land that could carry the quality of home that we wanted to deliver.
DESIGN INTENT: The style of the home is all about clean lines and modern living, with open-plan spaces that feel large and luxurious, and are capable of hosting a large family enjoying a beachside lifestyle. We wanted to design an impressive home that could open up and maximise indoor/outdoor entertainment – bold and sleek with an inviting colour palette and a liveable floor plan. We love the open living areas and the Cheminees Philippe fireplace, the barn-style doors and the huge gallery-style hallway that runs down the centre of the house. We also love that the rear of the home opens up with a servery window from the kitchen, allowing for beautiful air flow and ease of entertaining.
